Craig H. Stewart, Of Counsel to Leger & Shaw, was born in Houma, Louisiana on October 31, 1965. He is a loving husband, father of five, and member of St. Peter Baptist Church. Before attending law school, Stewart was Deputy Sheriff for the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. In this position, Stewart was Narcotics Investigator and was assigned to the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Sheriffs Association Narcotics Task Force.
He graduated from Grambling State University in 1986, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and an Associate in Science Degree in Law Enforcement. Stewart earned his Juris Doctor degree from Southern University in 1995, where he served on Moot Court Board and was the Associate Editor of Southern Law Review.
Stewart is admitted to practice law before Louisiana Courts. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts, Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of Louisiana. Stewart is a member of the New Orleans, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana State, and Federal Bar Associations.
Stewart is an experienced and accomplished trial attorney. Steward has served as Assistant District Attorney for the 23' Judicial District since 2008 as a Senior Trial Attorney. In this position, Stewart represents the State of Louisiana in Criminal District Court, prosecutes felony offenses, manages three felony sections, and tries jury cases for attempted murder, armed robbery, burglary, and drug offenses. Stewart also has had his own practice, Stewart Law Firm, since 2005, where he performs all aspects of general practice and civil litigation with a focus in maritime, admiralty and personal injury law.
Mr. Stewart also finds time to serve his community. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Terrebonne General Medical Center since 2008. He is also currently a member of the Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission. Stewart served as a member of the Terrebonne Economic Development Corporation from 2007 until 2009. He also served as a member of the Terrebonne Parish Home Rule Charter Commission from 2004 until 2005.
